Physiologix Programs
With the comprehensive nature of our team, we are able to offer innovative clinical programs. Learn more about these programs below.
Selected Highlights
As we evolve our unique multi-specialty model, we continue to develop innovative collaborative services —please take a moment to learn about several of our exciting new initiatives below. Please note this list is not exhaustive and please check back regularly for updates.
Carpal Tunnel Clinic
Physiologix is Edmonton's largest electrodiagnostic laboratory. This allows us to offer an expedited pathway for carpal tunnel syndrome. Using an innovative triage system, we aim for wait times for EMG assessment to be less than 4-8 weeks for severe cases requiring surgery.
We arrange on-site imaging-guided carpal tunnel cortisone injections and a streamlined process for surgical management if required. All of this means definitive treatment is provided with minimal delays and irreversible damage to the median nerve is avoided.
The Physiologix Carpal Tunnel Clinic is the most efficient way to have a clear diagnosis made and appropriate treatment initiated, and this includes the most streamlined surgical pathway available.
Our specialists are also well-versed in the numerous musculoskeletal problems that often co-exist with carpal tunnel syndrome and we can diagnose and treat these, too.
Physiologix Acute MSK Clinic
Acute MSK soft tissue injuries often require expert care. Please send patients with new injuries (<6 weeks) to our team of CASEM-certified Physicians and Physiatrists. We aim to optimize patient outcomes from injury (timely and safe return to activity, play, and work—as well as future injury prevention) by providing detailed diagnoses to facilitate targeted rehabilitation treatments.

Cast Clinic (Non-Surgical Fracture Management)
With on-site x-ray and orthopedic technician services, Physiologix Cast Clinic now provides comprehensive non-surgical management of fractures. Our MSK Physiatrists have nearly 40 years of combined experience in the non-operative treatment of fractures.
We receive referrals from the RAAPID Orthopedic Consult Line and are happy to also receive your referrals for non-operative fracture management directly. We typically see patients within 10 days of receiving the referral, or less urgently if appropriate.
Physical Therapy - Clinical Optimizations
In developing the Physiologix biopsychosocial approach to Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal Medicine, we have innovated many unique programs and clinical optimizations that will help to optimize your patient’s care.
We have innovated a unique way to provide Physical Therapy services with the goal of optimizing patient outcomes.
Traditionally, therapists work in isolation. At Physiologix, when you see a therapist, the door is open for you to access our team of medical specialists and diagnostic imaging. This fits with our philosophy of establishing a clear diagnosis to guide effective treatment.
Whether the symptoms are from a motor vehicle accident, sports injury, or wear-and-tear, our access to the Physiologix Medical Doctors gives up the unique ability to offer combined and collaborative services like the Trigger Point Injection Program and top level diagnostics.
Doctors, feel free to direct your patients to our team when the need arises, and patients, feel free to call us for an appointment. Note, a doctor's referral is not required for Allied Health Services, but can be helpful and may be required by insurance companies, etc.
Our Physical Therapy team is fully integrated with our Medical Specialists and Diagnostic Imaging so patients receive the expedited diagnostic clarity they need to guide effective treatment.
Our unique Clinical Optimizations set us apart. These include:
Expedited Medical Specialist Assessment: We prioritize clear diagnosis to make treatment efficient and effective. Our Physical Therapists are uniquely positioned to coordinate electrodiagnostic testing, diagnostic imaging, and assessments by any of the Medical Specialists.
Facilitated Rehabilitation: Patient care is facilitated by the easy availability of medication prescription, brace prescription, interventional procedures, and psychological assessment, as needed.
Comprehensive Allied Health: Physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, psychology, and podiatry are all available as necessary.
Finding relief for pain can be difficult and challenging. At Physiologix, we consider the patient's physical, psychological, and emotional health when diagnosing and treating pain.
Typically, there are multiple factors causing pain and medications alone are often not enough. Pain symptoms can be triggered or worsened by stress, anxiety, grief, and other emotional factors. Best practice treatment plans should be multidisciplinary and involve physicians working closely with allied health providers.
Our practitioners strive to provide relief and treatment plans centred around the end goal of providing patients with education and tools for self-management. Come in to see us and rest assured that you can have access to the highest level of collaborative care available.
Diagnostic Imaging - Clinical Optimizations
In developing the Physiologix biopsychosocial approach to Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal Medicine, we have innovated many unique programs and clinical optimizations that will help to optimize your patient’s care.
Our unique Diagnostic Imaging Clinical Optimizations include:
Pain Generator Pre-Screen: For referring physicians who would like some focused assistance, a Physiologix Expert can assess the patient to help determine the best target for an injection. We will contact the patient and collect the necessary information, and arrange a brief consultation, if required, prior to the injection.
Biomechanical and Psychosocial Assessments: Research shows that getting the best results from pain interventions requires coordinated multidisciplinary care. Our team provides in-house physical therapy and psychological assessment to patients who require injections if requested by the referring physician.
Clinical Correlation: Abnormal neurological and/or musculoskeletal imaging findings may require further assessment. Physiologix offers expert clinical follow-up at the referring physician’s request.

Our Diagnostic Imaging team is fully integrated with our Medical Specialists and Allied Health team so patients receive more than just a test result.
Trigger Point Injection Program
Myofascial pain with trigger points can cause focal or widespread chronic pain. If conservative treatment fails or is too painful, our physicians can provide trigger point injections followed immediately by a stretching program with the physical therapists. This coordinated, team-based approach optimizes the clinical outcomes of trigger point injection treatments.
